An 85,000-square-foot commercial plaza, which will consist of a medical building, professional office space, retail space, restaurants and a daycare, is being built on seven acres of land at 710 Balm Beach Rd. E. in Midland.

The development, which will be named the Midland Town Centre, will offer individuals and companies the opportunity to lease or buy space within the complex.

Coland Development Corporation broke ground on the project in late 2019, when crews started excavating the site just down the road from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore

“The Town of Midland should be excited about our upcoming development. We have had research done by top research agencies to master-plan this new development for the benefit of the local citizens and tourists,” said Coland co-owner David Colagiacomo. “I always had a vision to make Midland a better place to live, work and enjoy life.”

The complex will feature the following: a two-storey, 20,000-square-foot medical building; a two-storey, 30,000-square-foot professional office building; two 15,000-square-foot retail and restaurant buildings; and a 5,000-square-foot daycare building.

It will also include a total of 365 parking spaces, which will be accessed off Sundowner Road and Balm Beach Road East.

“The ability to have medical, office space, food, daycare and retail, all within this development, is what I am really proud to achieve,” said Colagiacomo. “Convenience and being able to have a one-stop-shop development was our main goal.”

Although the five buildings have yet to be built, lease agreements are already being worked on by agents with Sotheby’s International Realty.

Several physicians and a dental professional will be moving into the medical building once it is complete, while a nutrition store and pizza restaurant have agreed to move into the retail space.

Construction will begin in the spring. Colagiacomo said he expects the project to be completed by the fall of 2022.

The mayor, town staff and planners have worked with Colagiacomo and Coland Development Corporation quite a bit over the last few years.

The company is also behind the five-storey, 93-room Holiday Inn Express and the 45,000-square-foot conference centre being built on a five-acre lot on Highway 12, west of Beamish Road.

“I want to thank the mayor, planners and staff for recognizing the need for this development, and for their input and recommendations to make this development a reality,” said Colagiacomo. “It was great to work with the Town of Midland.”
