A five-storey, 93-room hotel and conference centre could be coming to Midland.

The Coland Development Corporation has submitted an application to build a new hotel and conference centre on a 4.82-acre lot along Highway 12 west of Beamish Road and the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment.

The proposed hotel will have a total gross floor area of 67,007 square feet and be 19 metres tall. The maximum height permitted under the town bylaws is 11 metres, so an exemption will need to be given.

The conference centre will be 26,870 square feet and have the capacity for approximately 500 people.

Midland council approved the application during a committee of the whole meeting on March 6. The proposal will now be subject to a formal public meeting, before it can be upheld by council.
